Get ready for an outstanding evening of live jazz in Torquay as the Martin Dale Quartet welcomes one of the UK’s most respected and versatile jazz musicians, British Jazz Award-winning saxophonist Derek Nash.

Derek Nash is a celebrated bandleader, composer, arranger, record producer and recording engineer, and is one of the busiest jazz musicians working in the UK today. He leads six bands, each with its own distinctive sound, working alongside some of Britain’s finest jazz musicians.

Derek has been a full-time member of the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra since 2004, as well as performing with the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion. During his career he has shared the stage with an extraordinary range of artists, including Tom Jones, Eric Clapton, David Sanborn, Jack Bruce, Amy Winehouse, Michael Bublé and Sir Paul McCartney.

A highly sought-after guest instrumentalist, Derek Nash regularly performs at leading jazz clubs and festivals across the UK and has received numerous nominations in the British Jazz Awards. His musical career also extends into jazz-funk, where he has performed with internationally acclaimed artists including David Benoit, Brian Culbertson, Ernie Watts, Mezzoforte, Nelson Rangell, Don Grusin and Dave Grusin.

Martin Dale Quartet

Martin Dale is widely regarded as one of the leading saxophonists in the South West and is one of the region’s busiest and most popular jazz musicians. Based in Plymouth, Martin leads his own quartet and is regularly invited to appear as a guest soloist with other leading jazz ensembles.

His impressive career includes playing tenor saxophone with the John Burch Octet, as well as performing with the London-based group Sax Appeal and the Jack Bruce Blues Experience.

Martin Dale’s Plymouth-based band has performed with some of the biggest names in British jazz, including Jim Mullen, Roy Williams, Derek Nash, Dick Pearce, Bruce Adams, Digby Fairweather and the acclaimed saxophonist Peter King. His versatility has also seen him work with 2008 X Factor winner Alexandra Burke.
