Radio Banska is a Bath-based instrumental quartet delivering a jazz infused blend of Levantine mystery, Balkan passion and Latin rhythms – all expressed in exciting original compositions with a world music flavour. Formed in 2010, they released ‘The Balkan Courtesan’ in 2012 and their genre-defying appeal has seen them performing in diverse jazz clubs, arts centres and festivals across the south of England ever since.
After the sad passing of founding member violinist Nina Trott, the band took some time to reflect and experiment with various line-ups. They have now returned to their roots with a quartet that showcases the two original guitarists – Dave Spencer and Tony Barby – and of course more of those melodic, mesmerising and darkly Levantine compositions.
” Banska’s ground colouring is Levantine, with musico-geographic excursions elsewhere. The guitars swinging ferociously with jazz and rock elements combined. Often surreal, always hard-driving . . . check them out, but carry a map of the Middle East !” Welsh Arts Review
