Steve Marshall

Just Stephen and Special Guest Geo are appearing at Fougou Jazz for a special evening of jazz, blues, soul and urban folk music.

From a young age, English singer-songwriter Steve Marshall worked with artists from around the world, including U.S. drummer Clifford Jarvis, original Jazz Warriors Alan Weekes and Kenrick Rowe, and Nigerian master drummer Jimmy Scott (Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames).

Steve Marshall produced three classic albums with Jamaican legend Lee “Scratch” Perry. Two of these received Grammy nominations. Working with Lee led to projects with Rolling Stone Keith Richards and Godfather of Funk, George Clinton, including mixing Keith Richards’ cover of the Gregory Isaacs classic, Love Overdue.

As co-founder of Pyramid Arts Development in East London, Steve performed, recorded and wrote with artists from around the world, including Clifford Jarvis, Alan Weekes, Clive Roper, Ernest Mothle and Jimmy Scott. He was also involved in the development of British hip-hop at grass roots level. These associations with jazz, reggae, soul, RnB, hip-hop, Afro-fusion, rock and electronic music have proved to be a great foundation.

Out of Pyramid, he set up State of Emergency with Deborah Baddoo, which marked the beginning of a long association with dance theatre. His score for Desert Crossings achieved critical acclaim, and the show toured in South Africa, Canada, Germany and the UK. Most recently, he composed the score for dance theatre shows Love&Sex, Choices & Consequences and Where Is Home?

”…voices like his deserve the respect, because the music is so uplifting and full of the whole range of ingredients.” Bob Jones, Blues & Soul Magazine

“…excitingly layered, infectious music – Desert Crossings remains a sensory pleasure.” Donald Hutera, The London Times

Geo joins the show fresh from touring in Europe as guest of new Decca/Universal signing The Teskey Brothers.

“Loving her music, and what a voice!” Josh Teskey, The Teskey Brothers.

“Geo is making something new, original and special which is always a challenge. I hear complete originality.” Chris Kimsey, Producer. (The Rolling Stones, Peter Tosh, The Chieftains, Peter Frampton, etc)
