Allison Adams Tucker
Tuesday 28 June 2022 8pm Preston Conservative Club
Allison Adams Tucker is returning to Fougou Jazz for a fourth visit from her home in California! Given 4 stars by DownBeat and described by The Examiner as “lustrous in any language – a vocalist who clarifies every note within a hair’s breath”, multi-lingual vocalist Allison Adams Tucker creates a unique travel memoir in music with jazz driven songs that span countries and genres in 6 languages. LondonJazzNews — “Marvellous articulation, great tonal accuracy, and dynamic drive.”
Born in San Diego to classically trained musical parents, Allison started singing before she could speak and began performing in front of audiences at age 5. Growing up on the border with Mexico, Allison was exposed to intermingling cultures, and her love for languages and world cultures also began at an early age. Allison’s vocal palette has been colored by her experience in a variety of musical genres throughout her life, from classical to punk rock and even a cappella Elizabethan madrigals, and in 2005 she found her home in jazz.
Allison celebrates her fourth album RETRO Trilogy, recorded in NYC – a retrospective of Generation X and her life’s musical journey with jazz re-imaginings of iconic music from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s by Paul Simon, Queen, Tears For Fears, The Cure, David Bowie, Sting, and more. RETRO Trilogy is to be released with a roll out of three EPs (70s, 80s, 90s) on streaming music platforms starting late 2022, and ending with the full 18 track album release and tour in 2023.
Allison’s voice can be heard on national commercials and on the video game “The Saboteur” soundtrack singing French jazz in the company of Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Madeleine Peyroux, and others. This has resulted in a cult following by a typically “non-jazz listening” gamer audience, pushing her interpretation of “La Vie En Rose” into the top downloads on iTunes, Pandora, and Spotify worldwide.
Allison has entertained audiences in Japan, Europe, Mexico, and the US, including the Blue Note New York, Ronnie Scott’s London, San Jose Jazz Fest, Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Los Angeles, The Jazz Kitchen Indianapolis, Tula’s Seattle, Idyllwild Jazz in the Pines Festival, Hawaii Jazz & Blues Fest, Takatsuki Jazz Street Festival Osaka, Body & Soul Tokyo, Le Baiser Salé Paris, Music Inn Rome, Lucca Jazz Donna Festival Tuscany, among others.
